About Us

As girls of color living in Texas, we saw heights of injustice regarding women after the overturning of Roe V. Wade in June 2022.

Dating back to the 19th century, the feminist movement, while advocating for women's rights and gender equality, has historically faced criticism for disregarding the experiences and concerns of women of color. Early waves of feminism often centered around the issues faced by white, middle-class women, resulting in the exclusion of the unique challenges and discrimination faced by women of color, whose experiences were significantly different due to their racial and ethnic backgrounds. This has led to women of color being marginalized both within the larger feminist movement and within their own racial or ethnic communities, navigating between different struggles for equality.

In The EmpowerHER Project, we want to incorporate womanist values where we focus on creating a safe space where people are able to learn about current issues of women of all colors face today and the important women in our modern society and others before them, while freely expressing their feelings and opinions in a civilized way.

Additionally, we hope to collaborate with other women-centered organizations such as Planned Parenthood to offer volunteering opportunities for our members to give back to the community and empowering women inclusively.
